The 28th Kayano, released in 2021, made two changes that reviewers spent most of their time on. The midsole moved to FF Blast, a lighter and springier foam than the FlyteFoam before it, which shifted the shoe from firm and controlled toward soft and rebounding. And the Trusstic, the rigid shank that had sat exposed on the outsole under the arch through generations of the line, was replaced by a Space Trusstic that floats inside the midsole instead.
Both changes point the same direction. A stability shoe traditionally works by resisting the foot, and the 28 tried to keep that support while making the ride pleasant enough for daily mileage. Dynamic DuoMax stayed on the medial side, so the underlying logic held, but what a runner feels underfoot did not.
Opinions split, as they usually do when a long-running model softens. This black pair with electric red came in June 2021, early in the release cycle, at $160.
