Every running brand keeps a flagship, and for ASICS it has been the Kayano since 1993. Flagship means the most expensive shoe in the support category, the one that receives new midsole materials first and the one whose changes get explained at length while the models below it quietly inherit the same parts a year later. The twenty-eighth edition carried FF Blast foam and a reworked external heel counter, and both had filtered into cheaper stability shoes before long. It replaced the GT-Cool Express at the top of the range and has held the position through every reorganisation of the catalogue since. Blue Harmony is a soft, washed-out blue rather than the saturated navy the category usually defaults to, and ASICS carried it across several running models in the same period, which is how a colour ends up feeling like a season.
