ASICS has been developing the GT-2000 since 1993, which makes it one of the longest-running stability trainers on sale, and its job has barely changed: enough cushioning for daily mileage, enough medial support to slow a collapsing arch, and enough durability to absorb a training block. It is the shoe the brand sells most of to runners who need support but are not injured by the lack of it.
The tenth version sits at a transitional point in that history. The midsole is FlyteFoam, the lighter compound ASICS introduced in 2016, and the upper moved to knit construction rather than the layered engineered mesh of earlier generations. The stability element had already begun shedding the hard rubber walls and plastic shanks that defined GT shoes in the 2000s.
This pair uses the 4E fitting, which widens the platform underfoot rather than only the upper, in the plainest finish the model received.
