Dr. Woo tattoos out of Los Angeles, and his fine-line style carries over intact here. Rather than cover the Chuck 70 in artwork, he edited it down to a single narrative, the spider and the fly, worked small against a plain egret upper. The restraint is deliberate. Woo's instruction to buyers was to wear the pair until it is destroyed, and the shoe is built to reward that. The embroidery frays with use, the stitched spider goes fuzzy at the edges, and off-white canvas picks up the grey of wherever it has been walked. What starts as a near-blank high-top ends up specific to one owner.
Underneath the artwork sits the standard package: canvas heavier than a regular All Star's, a taller glossy midsole with the foxing tape running higher up the sidewall, a one-piece rubber outsole beneath the diamond tread, and a thick OrthoLite footbed. At 180 dollars it cost roughly double a seasonal Chuck 70, with the black trim and the needlework accounting for the gap.
