Virgil Abloh previewed the Louis Vuitton reading of the Air Force 1 on the house's Spring/Summer 2022 men's runway in the summer of 2021, a few months before his death, and it became the last major footwear project he completed there. Forty-seven bespoke pairs were made, produced at the house's own factory in Fiesso d'Artico rather than in a Nike plant, the first time the model had been built outside the company's own supply chain. Two hundred numbered pairs went to a charity auction in early 2022 with matching pilot cases, raising more than twenty-five million dollars for a scholarship fund named after him, and a retail run of nine styles followed that summer once all forty-seven designs had been exhibited in Brooklyn. This green version is one of the quieter entries in that group. Calf leather covers the upper in white, and the green is confined to the Swoosh, the collar trim and the sole edge, so the shape carries the shoe and the colour just marks which of the nine it is. Bruce Kilgore's 1982 proportions survive intact underneath the house materials, which is most of the point.
