Virgil Abloh's stated method was subtraction. When he redrew ten Nike models in 2017 he described himself as editing roughly three percent of each design, on the reasoning that a shoe people already recognise does not need to be redrawn to be transformed. That principle is visible here in what has not been touched.
The sole unit is exactly Bruce Kilgore's from 1982: a rubber cupsole with encapsulated Air cushioning in the heel and the concentric pivot pattern moulded into the outsole, the same combination Nike has been putting on the shoe for four decades. Nothing about it has been reshaped for a luxury price.
What changed is everything above it. The upper is white calf leather with the Monogram debossed rather than printed, so the pattern registers as texture under the hand. The ankle strap that distinguishes the mid from the low carries the same pressed repeat. Metallic gold Helvetica text runs the medial side, and Louis Vuitton branding sits at the heel tab and on the leather tongue tag.
It released on 19 July 2022 at $3,450, the collection's upper price.
