The GEL-Cumulus has been in ASICS's range since the late 1990s, and its job has not changed: it is the neutral daily trainer, the shoe for runners who do not need the medial support the GEL-Kayano is built around. Where the Kayano is the stability flagship, the Cumulus is the one you buy to put miles on.
The 23rd version arrived in April 2021 and worked mainly on the midsole, stacking a thicker layer of FlyteFoam under the foot for more cushioning without the weight a denser foam would cost, and pairing it with a GEL unit at the heel. The upper went seamless (engineered mesh shaped to wrap the foot rather than built up from separate panels), with recycled content in the yarn.
A year later the 24th version switched to FF Blast foam and came out around 24 grams lighter, with a new lightweight outsole rubber. Taken together, the two generations mark the point where ASICS's mid-range trainers stopped being GEL shoes with foam around them and became foam shoes with GEL in them.
